We were thrilled to recognise members of a gym in Speke for donating a whopping 5,500kg of clothing through our donation scheme!
David Lloyd Gym has raised more than £4,800 for LMRUK through their donations, many of which were top-quality pre-loved fashion items and were sold through our online charity shop.
On Wednesday (October 22) Aleashia Marland, our Project Assistant and Clothing Banks Coordinator, presented the team at the gym with a special certificate and trophy in recognition of their efforts. The award was received by General Manager Greg Evans on behalf of staff.
He said he was impressed with the volume of clothing collected and would be urging other mangers of David Lloyd Gyms to consider siting one of our clothing banks at their premises.
Karina Zaiceva, Project Manager for The Sammy Project, our clothing bank collection service, said it was a magnificent effort deserving of the accolade. “We are so grateful to the gym and its wonderful members for their donations which has raised so much money for the charity’s vital work,” she said.
We’re proud to have more than 40 clothing banks at establishments and businesses across the Merseyside area, including gyms, churches, community centres, health centres, and social and sports clubs.
Our clothing banks are also installed throughout the North West region, including Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Cheshire, as well as several locations in North Wales and Shropshire.
Karina added: “Clothing collected from our clothing banks is sold through our online shops to raise funds for our charity. All clothing banks are installed, monitored, and maintained directly by Leukaemia & Myeloma Research UK, without the involvement of any third-party commercial organisations.”
She said she hoped more organisations, especially those with a high footfall, would come forward and offer to host a clothing bank.
She added that many fashion lovers are happy to seek out pre-loved items of clothing as it’s wonderful to give clothes a second life – saving money, helping in the fight against blood cancer and caring for the environment.
Charlotte Park, Health and Safety Manager for David Lloyd Gym in Speke and the co-ordinator of the clothing bank collection point said: “We are absolutely blown away by the amount of money our clothing bank has raised for LMRUK.
“It’s a cause that touches so many lives and we are honoured to play a part in driving awareness and support for those affected. Donating clothes may seem like a small act, but we know it can make a big difference – not just by raising funds, but by showing solidarity with those going through tough times.
“As a club, we are proud to stand behind LMRUK and hope our efforts help bring both practical support and a little hope to the people who need it most.”
Dr Joanna Tilley, Operations Director at LMRUK, praised David Lloyd Gym in Speke and its members for their efforts.
“Clothing recycling banks are a simple but powerful way to raise funds for our vital research. We’re so grateful to the staff at the gym and its generous members for their incredible contribution. This is a fantastic effort — and we’re proud to honour their work with our certificate and trophy.”
