Following last year’s incredible success — raising nearly £1,000 for cancer charities through a powerlifting competition at Fervid Fitness in Flint — Chelsea Batty is back for 2026, determined to make an even bigger impact.

In 2024, Chelsea’s mum, Tracy, was diagnosed with plasma cell leukaemia and multiple myeloma — an extremely rare and aggressive combination affecting roughly 1 in a million people. The diagnosis changed everything overnight. The prognosis was difficult, and the treatment journey that followed has been intense and unrelenting.

Tracy has undergone a stem cell transplant, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and recently received the devastating news that treatment will be lifelong. Chemotherapy is now a permanent part of her reality — a heavy emotional and physical burden to carry.

Yet despite the complexity of her diagnosis, exercise rehabilitation — a proven tool for improving strength, managing treatment side effects, and enhancing quality of life — wasn’t offered to her. Chelsea refused to accept that gap.

Together, they created a personalised exercise rehabilitation programme tailored to Tracy’s energy levels, symptoms, and treatment schedule. It wasn’t about pushing limits — it was about helping her feel like herself again. Regaining control. Rebuilding strength. Lifting her mood on the hardest days.

Exercise became more than movement. It became resilience. It became hope.

Tracy’s experience highlights a wider issue: people living with rare or lifelong cancers are often excluded from support that could genuinely improve their wellbeing. No one should miss out on something that helps them feel stronger, more capable, and more like themselves.

Chelsea shared:

“Over the past year, I’ve learned so much more about cancer and have made it my mission to raise awareness of the positive impact exercise can have on treatment-related symptoms. I’ve become a fully qualified cancer exercise rehabilitation instructor and have even supported my mum through a personalised programme.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of her diagnosis, she wasn’t eligible for referral through her oncologist — something I strongly believe needs to change. My mum has absolutely loved taking part, and it’s clear that no one with a cancer diagnosis should miss out on the benefits exercise can bring.

Through this experience, I’m determined to keep raising awareness and campaigning for more research in this area.”
