We’re pleased to announce that we’ve joined the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), an organisation dedicated to supporting charities that focus on funding medical research intending to save and improve lives.

Since we were founded in 2015, we’ve been investing in specialist research into stem cell therapies and how they can be used to fight blood cancer, as well as raising public awareness of the benefits of such therapies.

We’ll be joining over 150 charities across the UK that are part of the AMRC and fund all stages of research, from initial projects to clinical trials.

Dr Joanna Tilley, Operations Director for LMRUK said: “The AMRC is a widely renowned organisation providing vital support to research charities, so to be an approved member is a real testament to our ongoing commitment to invest in the highest quality research and something we are incredibly proud to have achieved”.

Each year, we invite researchers to apply for the charity’s research grant scheme, with all applications reviewed by the expert Research Review Committee made up of five scientists with a strong background in blood cancer.

“Stem cell transplants are frequently being used to treat people affected by blood cancer and are currently used to treat over 80 life-threatening diseases. Each year we continue to invest in innovative research into stem cell therapies to gain a better understanding of potential new treatments to protect the next generation”, added Dr Tilley.

The AMRC is committed to championing the many voices across the medical research charity sector, influence the research and health funding landscape, as well as maximising the potential for research and innovation in the NHS.

Carol Bewick, Director of Membership Engagement and Communications at the AMRC said: “We are very excited to welcome the Leukaemia and Myeloma Research UK as new members to AMRC showing they meet the highest standards for funding research. We are looking forward to adding their voice to ours at this particularly difficult time and working together to drive positive change in the research and health landscape.”
